Hype aside, there is true conviction by most in the potential of blockchain and cryptocurrency to disrupt most industries like the Internet has done. And perhaps that is a problem because it has resulted in many ICOs or startups where blockchain is a solution looking for a problem or an industry to disrupt, where a blockchain is NOT necessary or worst an inferior solution, or where all business fundamentals are ignored in the pursuit of a certain blockchain based solution. As developers, founders, investors, or in the case of my company, LINE corporation, a company analyzing how blockchain can be used to extend its existing services or create new ones, we all need to ask the right questions about the dApp/protocol/product we plan to invest time and money into. Questions such as... does it even need a Blockchain? Does it need to tokenize or token is just a way to raise fund? Is ICO the right answer for fund raising or token distribution? Does it need to decentralize and to what extend? What basic business fundamental questions are we not asking? Asking the right questions is sometimes more important than finding answers so this talk attempts to get the audience to think about the relevant crucial questions that need to be asked.
